Be Part of the Roar!! Why You Can’t Miss the Next CHAN Match at Kasarani Stadium

Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, came to life at noon. Crowds quickly formed in anticipation of the upcoming football match featuring Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the ongoing Total Energies CHAN 2024 tournament. Kasarani and its environs were a sea of passion and chaos that told a story of unity through shared passions and interests. The throng of people streaming into the stadium whipped up an unforgettable experience that was further enhanced by Harambee Stars’ deserved 1 – 0 win over their heavily favored opponents.

Pre-Match: The Calm Before the Storm

The first signs of a spectacular experience came at noon, as all roads leading to Kasarani began to swarm with green, red, and white colors. Fans came in their numbers, donning replica jerseys and draped with the Kenyan flag. A carnival mood had set in as fans blended their favorite Kenyan anthems with popular football chants. Some saw this as the perfect opportunity to break into dance, while others pulled out their phones to capture the excitement.

The queues at the stadium told the story of a “sold-out” match. Some overzealous fans even scaled the fences to get in, proof of the raw passion for the game. Inside, the atmosphere was electric—Kenyans uniting through song, dance, and social media moments in anticipation of kickoff.

During the Match: A Rollercoaster of Emotion

From kickoff to the final whistle, the 48,000-seater stadium roared. Every pass was cheered, every opponent’s touch booed. Morocco’s possession play was slick, but Kenya’s resolve was stronger.

The defining moment came in the 40th minute—a sweeping move from the back, a loose ball at the edge of the box, and Ryan Ongam rifling home a left-footed shot that sent Kasarani into pandemonium. The crowd erupted, strangers hugged, Mexican waves swept the stands, and Bien’s All My Enemies Are Suffering became the soundtrack of victory.

Even when Chrispine Erambo’s red card left Kenya a man down, the Harambee Stars held firm, thanks in part to goalkeeper Bryne Omondi’s man-of-the-match heroics. The final whistle sparked unrestrained celebration.
