Kutit Festival 2025: Where Beats, Beads & Heritage Collide in Nairobi

On 9th August 2025, Carnivore Grounds came alive with color, rhythm, and the unmistakable aroma of Mursik. The air was electric as the Kutit Culture Festival 2025 unfolded,  a vibrant showcase of the Kalenjin community’s music, art, food, and traditions. By midday, woven beads glistened under the sun, lesos swayed in the breeze, and the sound of traditional drums blended seamlessly with laughter and song.

The Festival

Kalenjin identity was present in all corners of the Carnivore Grounds. Kalenjin Music Platform, the organizers of the event, pulled out all stops to make this event a memorable one, putting considerable effort into converting the venue into a hub for Kalenjin culture. Symbolic motifs were present, and most attendees chose to turn up in traditional regalia, including woven beads and traditional lesos.  Revellers were treated to traditional fermented milk, commonly referred to as Mursik, among other popular, contemporary Kenyan dishes. Revellers sang along to catchy Kalenjin tunes while occasionally breaking into rhythmic dance that is synonymous with Kalenjin traditional dances.  All through, the vibes were evident, as the attendees from all walks of life were united in the shared heritage of #kutitculture.

Event Highlights

The highlights of the event included unforgettable performances from Vicky Brilliance and Zona Lastborn. MCs Jack and Japhe kept the crowd lively, guiding traffic through their catchy stage management prowess. The attendees danced non-stop as artist after artist who headlined the event delivered to the expectation of revelers with electric and memorable performances. Social media trends such as the ‘Kip’ and ‘Chep’ theme that were popularized on TikTok replayed during this event. Furthermore, the presence of Kalenjin socialites such as Brobox, as well as the blessings of President William Ruto, made this event a must-attend for Kalenjins and other communities aiming to imbibe in Kalenjin cultural richness. This aspect proved to be an underrated success for the event, since it was open to members of other communities, encouraging diversity in a largely multicultural and multi-tribal Kenyan society.
